In the past few months, I have been thinking about what I should accomplish in the coming year. This is my routine and usually it is done inside my head.
But what happened recently struck me as a thunder from above. I overlooked a lot of things.
I must confess that in our little domain where it is free from political correctness, I often behave excessively egoistic. It is not rare for our language to be abrasive and acrimonious. I forget that we must face the wider public and particularly the silent majority who cherish decency.
An integral person must be able to speak the same thing behind the door as in front of the mass. For a while I had fun with like-minded fellows in an email group and often I went so far in a manner that is nearly antisocial. The contempt of others is a threat to respect, hence freedom. With hindsight the behavior was also childish and ignorant.
If I must debate, I will debate openly. If I must write, I shall write publicly.
Think about this - do you dare to film something like this about the President of the PRC Mr Hu? I even have a name for it - Who's Hu? Certainly, Oliver Stone enjoys the freedom but does not understand why.
